CREATIVOLOGY CORP. Is a corporation consists of two dreamers who exploit their brains to maintain their existence in the virtual world, since they are not really exist in the real world. This imaginary companionship was established when the members are in a desperate need of money to pay their debts. The creation of this project proves the proverb that said “once you trapped in a hopeless or under pressure situation, it is the human survival instinct that helps you to find the unthinkable solution”.

§ MONON

Having an exquisite ability in Public Relation, Monon a.k.a Padmanegara fully exploit his brain in designing, writing, and thinking out of the box. This guy, who wants to become the second Johnny Depp, believes to the law of attraction. Monon’s most interest is movie and music. He is sure that this world will become worse in the next five years. That’s why he created this company to change the world to be a better place.

§ UMBRELLA

Umbrella is a type of person who thinks that he is the only normal person live on earth, which might also means that he is the only ‘abnormal’ person. He has an absolutely different way of thinking compares to others. For instance, he prioritizes quantity rather than quality. This cutie fat guy loves to eat anything that eatable. Having an Hotelier background helps him to reveal the undiscovered sites of tourism in Indonesia. It is an unfortunate that he is still single. However the loneliness of being single often helps him to generate surprising ideas.

Holaaa… Goodbye 2007 and welcome 2008!!

Finally, for the next 4 months, Starting from January 2 - April 30 2008, I become an intern in Euro RSCG Adwork, an advertising agency, at Jl Guntur 48 Jakarta..

In this company, I’m working under Euro RSCG 4d which is the division of  Euro RSCG Adwork that moving in below the line advertising & marketing activities.
My immediate supervisor is Ms. Indah (nice to meet you miss!!)..

The working condition in here is very different from other companies. In here
the situation, i can say… hmmm relax+busy!! Why? because, it has became
the tradition in advertising agency that they work based on the client request,
so when a alot of clients have thier request, our work will be crazyy, so damn busy.
and vice versa when there’re few clients  our work will be relax. Because of the company is far from my hometown I rent a room
with my friend (he work in Client Services division) in the same area. (perhaps it’s not really far, but it will make me stressfull if I don’t rent and live
in there..)

My working hours (formally) from 8.30 am until 5.30 pm but (informally) it depends on the job tasks. Phuihhh.. wondering
why this people really love the job and they become workaholic.. hmmm..
(I think I should make a research) …

Hopefully, I can adjust and adapt with the working condition and the people.
Phuihhh…. but because of i just could come back to my hometown after one or
two week, I really misss my honey.. (it’s OK, hmm just remember this is learning
process for us (you & I, hon)..

Oh yah, just some add, Now in this new year I will be released a business
and a new target for my life. please friend, pray for me..

“Politics and the media have long walked hand in hand. The media have always played a powerful role in politics. Even before radio, we had the penny press. There’d be great wars between various newspapers about politics. So even back then, the media were important.”
- Dr. Roderick Hart, a professor in the Department of Communication Studies and acting dean of the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.-

Over the centuries the debates between the media practitioners, scholars, and politicians in all over the world have not finished yet. The main problem of the discourse is whether the media influence the politics or politics influence the media. In this essay I would like to elaborate the relationship between the media and politics through its process, impact, and also how is strong the influence between both of them.

How Media Influence Politics
Since the very first beginning of media was born in this world, the media had become the most effective tools that are used to influence the every aspect in the society; one of aspects is political aspect.

The media are affected by the constraints of legal and informal political pressures. Media can be active agents in affecting the political structure while at the same time serving as an institutional structure used by political actors to achieve success (Croteau, David & William Hoynes, 1997).

Media affects the political world through many ways. The power of the media that create, shape, and manipulate the issues in the society by using its image, text, and sound has established the connection to the political world. The politicians use the media to control the society and to extend their power to become more powerful. According to the postmodernist theorists, which one of them is Baudrillard (e.g., 1983), the image has come to replace the “real”. Because of that it is really difficult for the society to distinguish between image and reality. The role of media is also becoming very important to the political world. Institute Professor Noam A. Chomsky presented two theoretical models on which to base analyses of the media’s role; the traditional, “Jeffersonian” model sees the media as a counterweight to governmental power; the “propaganda” model, on the other hand, sees journalists as agents and adjuncts of the government (Desai, Niraj S., 1989)

The traditional model focuses on whether the media coverage is too negative, not whether it is properly functioning as a check on elite interests. While propaganda model focuses on the political elites that they should create “necessary illusions” to control the mass of people, who were unable to make rational decisions. Under the propaganda model, the media attempts to create illusions which will allow the corporate elite to continue in power (Desai, Niraj S., 1989). For case in point, in Indonesia the political elites use television to promote their campaign. In previous Jakarta Governor Campaign, each candidate delivered their message through the media. Their appearance, behavior, and attitude had been set up by the team campaign. Then media has been strengthened the message through their image, for example television. In conclusion, media has influenced the political world so much that the politicians really depend on the media to change and control public opinion for the continuation or extension power over the society

How Politics Influence Media
The impact of political economic has affected the media in making decision. When talking about political economic, we are talking about the government. The media behavior and content are really depend on government policies and it also caused by the nuance of politics where those media are living in. The political actions, regulations, and policies where the media are living would influence the way that media will operate in the society. In Indonesia, for example, the relationship between the governments, political parties, elites, and the media are really strong. The condition of media in Soeharto era is different from the condition of media in Soekarno era; it is also different in Reform era.

The purpose, form, and content of the media are all socially determined, as are the rules that regulate them (Croteau, David & William Hoynes, 1997). This issue is very complex. Sometimes, the regulations that are made in the country represent only the wants and needs of the people who have power in the governmental area. Those people not only have political power but also economical power. Hence, they dictated how media should act in the society.

From the problem above, it will lead to the ownership issue. The ownership has given the effect also to the media contents and behavior in reacting to the policies and regulations of the government in controlling the media. Media organizations operate within a context that is shaped by economic and political forces at least partially beyond their control, but the production of media is not simply dictated by these structural constraints (Croteau, David & William Hoynes, 1997). The distribution of the news, for example, will pass several steps, but at the end, it just depends on the owner of the media. Therefore when the media are close to the government, the orientation of the media to choose the government side is strong. While on the other hand, when the relationship to the government is not really good, the media itself will prefer to choose to become the rival of government by criticizing the elites. But when the power of the government is strong over those media, it is useless for them, because they will be pushed or even banned by the authority, for example in Soeharto era. Many media were banned because they against the government at that time. In conclusion to this main issue about the politics influence the media is the content, attitude, behavior, process, and distribution of the media will depend on the regulation and policies that are made by the authority. Each media has the political orientation, even the independent media. Therefore the relation between the media and politics could be said that it is same as the relations between “you and your friend, girlfriend, or boyfriend”. When one of them changed the other will also changed. Interrelated, interconnected, and it could not be separated.

Film Pendek “Sayap untuk Laras” salah satu karya Ucok (for your info: dia salah satu vokalis Jelanguan) masuk nominasi Film pendek terbaik 2007 di Riau.

Film yang menceritakan tentang kisah anak jalanan yang tinggal di stasiun ini sangatlah unik. Film ini merupakan film kedua Ucok setelah “Ceprat cepret” (for your info: karena rating yangbelum jelas untuk film ini, dengan sangat terpaksa tidak dipublikasikan, hanya untuk kalangan pribadi. mungkin setelah ada revisi dan edit ulang film ini akan dipublikasikan, hopefully”). Sayap untuk Laras ini dibuat untuk menyelesaikan salah satu tugas akhir di kampusnya (red: Broadcast UI). Film yang mengunakan alur pararel ini mempunyai kekuatan di segi cerita dan sound (oiriginal score) yang tertata rapi. Meskipun ada bagian-bagian yang harus ditingkatkan, well, for your 2nd movie, it’s a wonderful job.

dan akhirnya ini mengingatkan kita sama pesen lo 2 tahun yang lalu:

“Ini baru permulaan Jack, untuk mencapai final stage kita harus ngelewatin beberapa stage dulu. kita memang diktadirin untuk jalan zig-zag. meskipun materi kita udah cukup, klo kita blum mencapai impian kita, kita belum HIDUP!”

and when I sent him a sms: “Mantepp lah cok! ntar ada jumpa pers yah. Inget cok, Jalan Zig zag!”

he just replied: “Tai lo,ha2…. monon monyet!! sebenernya gwe ga suka dipuji2, menjatuhkan tw ga lo…tapi gwe optimis non..gwe dapet banyak temn orang2 film hebat…qt produksi lagi kapan2, gw menimba ilmu lagi dulu,nilai ilmu gwe baru 1 dari 1000 love you!!”

Sedikit bercerita tentang masa lalu.. Cerita apa yah.. hhmmm… yasudah deh tentang kisah cinta ABG labil.
Dulu tuh (off the record yah), susahhhh sekali mencari seorang Soulmate (sokk iyee banget yak, hehe piss..), iya bener.. gile gwe dah melakukan Journey to the West, Berpetualang ke Tujuh Samudera, sampe2 ke Angker Batu coba cuma untuk nyari belahan jiwa…

And finally.. Dia ngasih someone special yang emang selama ini daku nantikan..
N surprise,,,, someone spesial itu sudah jadi kekasih ku sekarang, dan bukan disengaja, dia teman SD ku, hwhwahw.. senangnyo.. Alhamdulillah.. ternyata gak disangka2.

Tapi lucu juga sih, dulu waktu SD gwe sering ngangkat2 roknya, ngeledekin dia, eh sekarang tau2na jadi calon bini (amin, sabar yah Fet 4 tahun lagi gak terlalu lama kok)..
wah pokoknya bersyukur banget deh. (Love u so much honey!!)

Thanks yah buat temen2 di D’jomblos Society yang udah ngasih dukungan baik moriil maupun materiil selama 2 tahun terakhir ini,selamet juga buat yang udah nemuin soulmatenya, buat yang blum santai aja. Sabar bro!! Pokoknya Keep on Spirit!!

Alhamdulillah, Interpersonal Skills project-ku sudah selesai, berarti tinggal presentasi akhir deh..

Si Pingin Tau: Lho emangnya situ ngadain apa sih, sampe2 bolos kuliah dua hari?

Pandu: Oh, gini loh, Kita (saya dan teman2 saya) ngadain “Smiling Photo Exhibition”. Tujuan dari acaranya sebenernya untuk charity alias sumbang menyumbang. Nah Kita ngumpulin foto orang2 di sekitar kampus sambil senyum, hanya cukup dengan membayar min RP 2500 mereka bisa nyumbang sekaligus dapet hard copy alias hasil fotonya. trus ntar hasilnya dipake untuk ngebuat kolase anak kecil lagi senyum.

Si Pingin Tau: Kenapa senyum?

Pandu: Oh gini mas, (ceritanya ngomong yang berbobot) kan sekarang di dunia (ngga usah jauh2 deh, di Indonesia aja, ataw di lingkungan sekitar kita) ini sedang panas2nya konflik, perang, prasangka buruk, permusuhan, wah pokoknya yang jahat jahat deh…
Kita pingin ngebuat suasana kehidupan ini jadi lebih baik.. banyak banget hal yang kita bisa lakuin, cuma kadang2 kita suka sering lupa hal yang paling kecil yang bisa ngebuat dunia ini jadi lebih baik.. apa coba?? senyuman yang ikhlas.
Cuma lewat senyum? apa bisa? wah bisa banget.. coba bayangin klo misalnya mas ketemu orang di jalan, warung, ataw dimana gitu.. tru orang itu manyun alias cemberut pas mas liat ataw sapa.. Nah perasaan mas gimana?

Si Pingin Tau: wah.. itu saya sering ngalamin, yah saya sih, kesel.. apalagi pas udah saya senyumin ataw sapa, dianya manyun cemberut, udah deh, saya paling bisa komentar dalam hati, ini orang ga bisa senyum, sakit gigi, apa emang … pokoknya berprasangka negatif deh

Pandu: tuh kan si mas buat dosa..

Si Pingin Tau: iya nih, maapin saya yah Ya Alloh, laen kali ngga lagi deh, trus trus lanjut?

Pandu: Makanya mas, kita pingin ngebuat dunia ini at least lingkungan kita jadi lebih baik, nyaman, nyenenin, damai, dll.. cuma senyum doang, senyum yang ikhlas..

Si Pingin Tau: wahhh.. iya yah cuma senyum doang apa susahnya.. hehe.. iya ah ntar saya pokoknya klo ketemu orang saya senyumin.

Pandu: Tapi senyum nya jangan aneh2 yah mas, ntar malah disangka macem2 lagi.
Si Pingin Tau: iyaa.. oh, trus balik lagi ke acaranya, emang kapan diadain?

Pandu: Kita ngumpulin fotonya seminggu, acara pamerannya kemaren sore sampe malem, nah kita buat stand foto gitu, nah konsepnya sama juga untuk charity.. trus disitu kita nyediain space karton kosong untuk ditulis ‘n ditandatanganin sama orang2, yang nyatain bahwa dia janji bakal tersenyum untuk ngebuat dunia ini jadi lebih baik. pokoknya seru deh kemaren malem..

Si Pingin Tau: wah saya rugi dwonk berarti gak ikut. tapi gpp deh.. oh iyah mas fotoin saya dwonk, saya maw nyumbang nih.. meskipun baru ini yang saya bisa saya kasih.. yahhh

Pandu: oh gpp mas, klo 1/3 orang indonesia kaya mas, wah itu udah Alhamdulillah banget..

Si Pingin Tau: Ok deh.. sampai ketemu lagi yah

Pandu: ok deh, bulu dada melambay-lambay see you dadah and bye bye..

Phuihhhh.. tough weeks, tough days, and tough assignments..  darn.. cape euy..

Beginilah hari-hariku yang sangat padat. Kuliah, thesis, organisasi, project, event, sampe pesenan design. Pingin balik ke Bogor lagi euy, pingin ketemu sama Suster Fety yang baik hati…(I adore you..)

Pingin nongkrong2 lagi sama D’jomblos ‘n bermusik ria bareng Jelanguan (bro, kapan kita on-air, katanya maw on-air di Radio).

Pingin buat  film lagi euy sama KFATAL..

wahhh pokoknya banyak deh yang dipinginin, (ya iyalah ndu, loe kan manusia.. ngga akan pernah puas). so, what would you like to say ndu?!  well.. nikmatin aja deh, yang penting jangan sampe ada waktu yang kebuang..

Analyzing Press System: Media Indonesia

\Media Indonesia is one of the national newspapers owned by Suryapaloh, the owner of Media Group. When analyzing Media Indonesia, It is difficult to see what kind of pure press system that is adopted by Media Indonesia. In my analysis by observing its contents, the press system that is adopted by Media Indonesia is the combination between Libertarian and Social Responsibility theory.

Libertarian theory which is usually called free press theory is adopted by Media Indonesia that usually can find in their editorial, some of their news, and sometimes we can find in its photos. There is an ideology that public has right to know and freedom of speak. That’s why Media Indonesia provides the big column for comment from public. While in the other hand Media Indonesia also adopting the Social Responsibility theory, which puts the mass media and the government on the same level, signifying an interaction where both parts are allowed to criticize the other (Terje Steinulfsson Skjerdal, 1993). Even though in its news have critics to government but Media Indonesia also becomes the bridge between government and public. Media Indonesia informs to public about what has the government done. Beside that some of the news also provides the solution to the reader. Hence, there is a balance in their news content that responsible to social problem. In its contents, generally the content of news in Media Indonesia shows that it influences people mostly through opinion leader. Media Indonesia is putting the opinion from the expertise and public leader to make their news become trustable and objective.

However, if we want to go deeper by seeing all the whole news, concept, and the way the news is reported, we will get different assumption. It seems the newspaper has tendency to become the informer of the government and it wouldn’t want to become the rival of the government. I have an assumption that Surya Paloh, as the owner, a politician, and a media practitioner, has an agenda that he doesn’t want to have the bad relationship with the government at the same time as also trying to get the reader’s interest that (perhaps) will be useful and give benefit to him and other media group’s board. In conclusion, all those happens in mass media especially in Media Indonesia could not be free from anything, it always an agenda setting that is used to set the agenda of the public.

PRIORITAS TRAGEDY (1987)

On June 1987, The Freedom of Indonesian Journalism threatened by the closing of lively daily Prioritas, which was owned by Suryapaloh. The banned of Prioritas was caused by the contents that were considered too sensitive and naked.

The official tone was set by a commentary in the Angkatan Bersenjata (Armed Forces Daily) edition of October 14, 1986, that said the government was prepared to sacrifice any newspaper deemed to have jeopardized the national interest.

The closing of Prioritas in 1987 was a famous case in Indonesia. The military detained the newspaper publisher and editor, and some reporters, and interrogated and intimidated them. With no legal justification, the government permanently shut down Prioritas. Management later petitioned the Indonesian Supreme Court to reopen the paper, but the case was thrown out on a technicality, and the paper was never reopened.

During 30 years under New Order era, former President Soeharto controlled media using permission regulation, such as printed permit (SIC), publishing permit (SIT), and press company permit (SIUPP). Through these permissions, former government controlled the press. When the press critics was not danger their power, they only sent warrant letter or remaining signs to the media by phone. Usually, this way is used by new order officers when they didn’t like an article published.

When the critics crossed the threshold, the harder treatment would be implemented. Government judged that these media had been already danger the national stability. In Prioritas case, the Government in that Era, which is New Order Era, didn’t want to lose their power. According to Dewey, the government had been done the public’s fair distraction.

In mass media, there is a social power. Social power here will be summarily defined as a social relation between groups or institutions, involving the control by a (more) powerful group or institution (and its members) of the actions and the minds of (the members) a less powerful groups (Teun A. Van Dijk; Power and the News Media). Consequently, if the government wants to get that power to control the society, they should control the media.

However, most Indonesian press problems during the new era order were in the interaction difficulties between press, who take the social control roles, and the government, who wanted to keep their power.
